var - there is/are

İstanbul'da çok insan var. There are many people in İstanbul.
Saat bire beş var. It is five to one.
Şeker var mı? Is there any sugar? 
Evde kediler var. There are cats in the house.
Note:
In order to say "to have" in Turkish we need to use the genitive noun phrase first, and then we need to add the word var.
Bir evim var. I have one house.
Senin kardeşin var mı? Do you have any brothers?
Sorunuz var mı? Do you have any questions?
